A Licensed Pedorthist (LPed) is a Pedorthist who is licensed as required by the Oklahoma Pedorthic Licensure Act. An LPed specializes in the design, fit and modification of foot appliances and footwear.
The scope of training includes the study of foot anatomy and pathology, lower extremity biomechanics, shoe construction and modification, design and fabrication of foot orthosis, footwear fitting, and patient/practice management. In Oklahoma anyone dispensing diabetic footwear or custom arch supports must be a physician, physical therapist or an LPed. The Oklahoma Medical Board governs LPeds in Oklahoma.
1. Successfully complete an American Board for Certification in Orthotics,
Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) recognized training program.
2. Pass the ABC examination.
3. Apply for LPed license with the Oklahoma Medical Board.
